PICCOLO TEATRO DI MILANO PDF Print E-mail

Italy’s first civic repertory theatre, Milan’s Piccolo Teatro was formed in the immediate aftermath of World War II by Paolo Grassi and Giorgio Strehler.

Up until the Nineties, it was housed in the via Rovello premises (today known as Sala Grassi); but Strehler’s dream, right from the Sixties, had been to open a new, multi-purpose theatre.
In 1991 a ministerial decree gave the Piccolo the status of Theatre of Europe, but it was not until 1998 that the Nuovo Piccolo Teatro complex (now Teatro Strehler), designed by Marco Zanuso, was finally completed.

The Piccolo Teatro di Milano now boasts three premises: Teatro Grassi, Teatro Strehler and Teatro Studio.
