In the context of the urban regeneration programme known as Contratto di Quartiere Sant' Eusebio - aimed at converting residential property belonging to Aler on the northern edge of Cinisello Balsamo - and thanks to a loan from the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies "Development Fund " (Law 236/93), a new complex has been built that includes flats, offices, service centres and premises for businesses and artisan workshops. The commercial building, known as Laboratorio di Quartiere Sant'Eusebio, is situated in via A. da Giussano and covers 900 m2 of floor space, divided into ground and mezzanine floors, suitable for housing five artisan workshops/commercial premises measuring approximately 180 m2 each. In 2004 Milano Metropoli and Cinisello Balsamo town council announced a competition to assign such premises, to attract new artisan and commercial start-ups, especially run by women, and to engage the owners resident in the district in order to foster job creation and business development in the area. The basic criteria for selection are a commitment to hire new recruits, the inclusion of women or anyway residents in the Sant' Eusebio district among the owners, the cooperative or no profit connotation of the business proposed, as well as its environmental compatibility, its innovative content and, in the case of already consolidated firms, its reliability and experience. At the moment there are still premises available. These can be rented at a subsidized price that includes use of the area and of a series of advantageous services, such as tutoring to get the business up and running as well as assistance with credit facilities.
